Italy set for top scorer with Euro 2016 triumph

Digital design news: Italy’s hopes of making it to the World Cup finals were bolstered by their Euro 2016 victory.

With Italy holding a 2-1 lead at the end of the first half, they scored a hat-trick in the 73rd minute from Mario Balotelli as they took the lead.

The win, their fourth in a row, lifted Italy into second place in Group B and sealed a place in next summer’s Euro finals.

Italy have been in the final for just one time in all competitions since the 2006 World Cup.

“It’s a great result,” coach Andrea Bertolacci said after the game.

But he admitted the goalkeeping job is not yet his.

Balotelli, who has scored 17 goals in 26 appearances for Italy, said: “I’m disappointed but I think I will do better.”

Bertolacci’s team have won six of their last seven games and the win over the Czech Republic, who had won all four of their previous games, put them back into the race for the title.

Italian coach Antonio Conte said: “The game was not going to decide our fate.

It was a difficult game, but I thought we made the most of the opportunity to win the game.”

They will face England in their next match on Thursday night, when they host Greece.
